UPDATE (FRIDAY AT 11:45 AM):

The latest arrest for Aldon Smith has signaled the end of his career with the San Francisco 49ers,as the team released a statement announcing the news Friday.

“The San Francisco 49ers have released linebacker Aldon Smith.

“This organization has tried very hard to help Aldon fight his issues. Although he is no longer a member of this team, our support and concern for him will continue.”

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith, who missed nine games last season while serving a suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse and personal conduct policy, may have to sit out more games after another arrest on Thursday night.

According to the Santa Clara Police Department, Smith was arrested Thursday night for an alleged hit and run, DUI and vandalism. Bond was set at $26,000.

Smith, 25, is no stranger to off-field issues. In 2012, he was arrested for DUI and, in a separate incident, was stabbed at his own house party that led to weapons charges. A car accident in 2013 led to his second DUI, a rehab stint, and five missed games.
