Stone Temple Pilots are looking for a new singer, and Dave Grohl is offering his studio for the worthy cause. But the Icelandic singer Einar Vilberg didn’t know that until he was flown out to Los Angeles for an audition and arrived at the Foo Fighter-record-clad studio.
Vilberg was asked to audition after submitting a video online earlier this year. He told Alternative Nation about meeting STP for the first time:
“We played songs from Core, Purple, and Tiny Music. And the guys are really great down to earth guys. Really welcoming and fun to be around. We had a lot of fun together and laughed a lot.”
Earlier this month guitarist Dean DeLeo called him personally to thank him and let him know the band it considering a couple other singers (one of whom is rumored to be Filipino singer John Borja).
Vilberg is now re-focusing on finishing his first solo album. Of the call, he said:
“I honestly hope the band will choose an appropriate singer that will carry on the legacy, but more importantly has his own voice and is not a Scott Weiland impersonator.”
Speaking of impersonations…it just so happens that Vilberg bears a striking resemblance to Kurt Cobain. We all noticed it too.
