Metallica to Perform with Lady Gaga at the Grammy Awards

News is coming out that Lady Gaga will join Metallica onstage at the Grammys this Sunday, February 12th. Yesterday, a Lady Gaga fan site tweeted a snippet of a Grammy promo clip declaring, “Lady Gaga duets with Metallica.”

The Twitter post here shows a commercial clip with the announcement, which has since been confirmed by Rolling Stone.

This is the latest move in a big week for Lady Gaga. Following her Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday, Lady Gaga announced that she will go out on tour hitting arenas and stadiums all over the world in support of her album “Joanne”, which came out last October. Billboard predicts that “Joanne” will jump back into the Top 5 on the Billboard 200 next week as listeners buy her album following her Super Bowl performance.

Lady Gaga is a regular performer at the Grammys; last year she appeared at the ceremony to pay tribute to David Bowie. Metallica hasn’t been on the award show since 2014, when they performed the song “One” with the classical pianist Lang Lang.

This year Metallica’s “Hardwired” is nominated for Best Rock Song. Metallica is competing with David Bowie, Radiohead, Twenty One Pilots and Highly Suspect. Lady Gaga is not up for any awards as “Joanne” was released after the 2016 deadline.

Metallica and Lady Gaga is one of several star pairings at the upcoming Grammys ceremony. Alicia Keys will also perform with country singer Maren Morris, while the Weeknd will reunite with Starboy collaborators Daft Punk.

With the performance just a few days away, hopefully Metallica frontman James Hetfield will have fully recovered from the ailments which have forced the postponement of the band’s Copenhagen shows. James Hetfield powered his way through a Febreury 3rd show, despite struggling with vocal issues, at one point Hetfield asked the crowd if the band should stop and come back another night to deliver the standard quality performance.

Metallica is also scheduled to play a show at the Hollywood Palladium directly after the end of the Grammys, which airs this Sunday, February 12th at 8pm on CBS.

The collaboration between Metallica and Lady Gaga shouldn’t come as a surprise since Lady Gaga is a known metalhead, she has publicly said she’s a fan of Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. In August of 2015, she even said she’d rather be the next Maiden than the next Madonna.
