It wasn’t the best of nights for the annual Grammy Awards. The show began with host James Corden falling down and into the stairwell. But that was planned comedy. The rest of the evening’s failures were unplanned and not so funny.
During the tribute to George Michael, Adele stopped in the middle of the song to curse and request a “do over”. Perhaps James Hetfield should have done the same when Metallica’s performance began without his microphone being live.
Hetfield didn’t seem initially aware of the glitch. But his reaction afterwards to kick over the microphone stand and toss his guitar would indicate he wasn’t happy with the gaffs.
If that wasn’t enough, Metallica wasn’t even mentioned before the hit the stage. Laverne Cox apologized afterwards with this tweet…
I am so sorry to #Metallica and all their fans. I am told I didn’t say their names during the intro. Love you Metallica. You Rock. #Grammys

What happened to cause the microphone failure? TMZ shares this theory.
