South African rock band Seether released their new single “Let You Down” ahead of their 7th album Poison the Parish. The black and white music video is eerie and dark to the core. Lead man Shaun Morgan told Alternative Press about the record:
I think [this album] is probably something heavier than we’ve done in a while. There’s more of a return to the sound we had on the first few albums and I know that people wanted that.
As for the album title, it was derived from Morgan’s disgust with celebrities brainwashing or “poisoning” audiences by social media. He says:
I find completely vapid and useless as far as their contributions to society. People buy lipgloss from a girl who didn’t have lips a few years ago (a not-so-subtle reference to Kylie Jenner). It doesn’t make sense to me. It’s quite disturbing how kids soak up information spread from these social media personalities.
Seether’s new heavier album Poison the Parish will be out on May 12th. The band has planned to do a tour as well as their 5th annual Rise Above festival in Maine, which raises money for suicide prevention.
Their track “Rise Above This” was dedicated to Morgan’s late brother Eugene. The 2017 Rise Above festival lineup includes Korn, Shinedown, Stone Sour, Halestorm, and more.
