Coheed and Cambria Live at The Fox Theater in Oakland 04-14-17

This past Friday night I went to arguably the best venue in the Bay Area to see live music, the Fox Theater in Oakland to see Coheed and Cambria.

I love the Fox Theater in Oakland, it’s gorgeous inside and outside. Located in the uptown district of Oakland, that whole part of downtown Oakland is beautiful and has come a long way over the last 10-15 years. Kudos to former Mayor Jerry Brown for cleaning/remodeling that part of Oakland.

What a busy yet fun day this past Friday was for me. The day before I found out that Matt Pinfield from our sister KFOG was going to be doing an in-studio interview with all four members of Coheed and Cambria on Friday afternoon and he asked me if I wanted to record a separate interview with them after he was done. I couldn’t pass up this opportunity so I did.

I’m so happy I did the interview, Claudio Sanchez, Josh Eppard, Travis Stever and Zach Cooper from Coheed and Cambria couldn’t have been any nicer and fun to hang out with.

Coheed and Cambria’s current tour is called the “Neverender GAIBSIV” in which they will revisit their third album, Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness.”

The first of the two Good Apollo albums is considered by many to be the band’s most progressive album. It features the singles “Welcome Home” and “The Suffering.” Coheed and Cambria have been known to revisit past studio albums in full while touring and this first edition of the Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV series, is getting a chance to shine onstage in its entirety.

In addition, singer Claudio Sanchez has announced his plan to release as 12-issue comic book for Good Apollo that will be part of his The Amory Wars series that came out this month. The story loosely follows the subject matter of the album.

Earlier this year Coheed and Cambria released a new instrumental music video for their song “So Run Little Children, Play,” the piece features a young girl playing outdoors, but with a red tint and ominous clouds and rain factoring into the occasion. Watch the video above.

Later that night I arrived at the Fox Theater in Oakland and met up with Matt Pinfield and Alicia Tyler from our sister station KFOG and we went backstage to hang out with Coheed and Cambria. After having some beers we made our way to the main room to watch Coheed and Cambria blow the roof off. Coheed and Cambria sounded amazing and it was a real treat to hear all of the songs from their Good Apollo I album. Thank you again to Claudio Sanchez, Josh Eppard, Travis Stever and Zach Cooper from Coheed and Cambria for a fun day and night. Good times.
