Breaking Benjamin Live at The Masonic in San Francisco 04-20-17

This past Thursday Friday night I went to The Masonic in San Francisco to see Breaking Benjamin. This was my first time inside The Masonic since they remodeled it and it’s gorgeous inside. Hardwood floors on the general admission floor level and with the circular structure of the room, no matter where you stand you have a great view of the stage.

Breaking Benjamin is out touring in support of their latest album, 2015’s “Dark Before Dawn.” The Masonic was packed with die hard fans, it’s been a while I have been to a show where that many people in one room wearing the band they are seeing shirts. I guess being labeled as “that guy” is a thing of the past.

After my interview with bassist Aaron Bruch and drummer Shaun Foist, I walked around the venue to take it all end. After putting my equipment away I went backstage to hang out with Breaking Benjamin and could hear from the dressing room Red open the show and rock the house. Before Breaking Benjamin hit the stage, I got a spot stage left, near the front and waited for Breaking Benjamin to hit the stage.

Over the last year and a half I have seen Breaking Benjamin twice, back in October 2015 at the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento and in July 2016 at the Concord Pavilion. I love Breaking Benjamin’s live show, not only did they play hit song after hit song but also did a rock medley which included their covers of Star War’s Imperial March, Tool’s Schism, Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, Pantera’s Walk, Rage Against The Machine’s Bulls On Parade and Metallica’s Sad But True. The current singles “Angles Fall,” Never Again” and “Failure” from “Dark Before Dawn” sound great live and blend in very nicely with their older hits.

I have to give it up to Breaking Benjamin’s fans, they were all singing along to every song and doing a lot of headbanging. Thank you again to Aaron Bruch and Shaun Foist from Breaking Benjamin for interview with me earlier in the day. I look forward to the next time Breaking Benjamin comes through the Bay Area.
