Guy Ritchie is back with his new movie King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword that he wrote, Produced and Directed.
Led by an all-star cast, including Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen, Jude Law and Eric Bana, this movie is Guy Ritchie’s version of the classic story about the rise of King Arthur.
I’ll be honest, I don’t know too much about Medieval times and the folklore about King Arthur. My only knowledge has come from the 1963 Disney movie “The Sword In The Stone.” Also, I thought Excalibur was a hotel in Las Vegas (insert sarcasm), I forgot that it’s the name of the sword I would see at Disneyland, lol.
Going into this screening I was looking forward to this movie because I’m a huge fan of Charlie Hunnam from his days on FX’s “Sons of Anarchy,” his portrayal of King Arthur felt like a medieval version of Jax, from his body language to how he delivered his lines.
This movie continues the Guy Ritchie film tradition of quick witted jokes and fast paced story telling. Guy Ritchie’s creative style made this movie different from other fantasy based Medieval times films, especially considering the fact this is a story we have heard many times over the years.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie for what it was, which is a fresh, updated origin story about King Arthur that included a lot of fantasy story telling and characters. The fantasy element is what I enjoyed most. I was surprised by how much magic was used in this movie, especially because the trailer didn’t reveal too much of it. With that being said, it was action packed.
As I mentioned before, I liked the fast paced movie but at times it came off more chaotic and it could have been slowed down and the story could have been told in a more old school approach.
Don’t worry I’m not giving any spoilers, but the ending was very predictable, but still was visually very fun to watch.
The way Guy Ritchie wrote and ended this movie’s story, it leaves room for a sequel and could expand into more movies/King Arthur based movie universe. I’m sure the studios intention is to make a trilogy.
Go see King Arthur: Legend of the Sword when the movie hits theaters on Friday, May 12th.
I would rate the film: 7/10
