Baby Huey’s Movie Review For Baby Driver

Edgar Wright is back with his new movie that he wrote and directed “Baby Driver.”

Premise:

The cast includes:

Ansel Elgort as Baby

Lily James as Debora

Kevin Spacey as Doc

Jon Hamm as Jason “Buddy” Van Horn

Jamie Foxx as Leon “Bats” Jefferson

Jon Bernthal as Griff

Eliza Gonzalez as Monica “Darling”

Baby Driver is the latest movie from Writer and Director Edgar Wright and this film didn’t disappoint. Over the years Edgar Wright has won fans over with this movie making style and this film continues with that tradition. The opening scene sets the film in high gear and doesn’t let off the gas (no pun intended) for the rest of the movie.

The biggest thing that stands out to this movie is the soundtrack. Edgar Wright carefully crafted the music to perfectly set the tone for every scene and help guide the viewers what emotions he wants us to feel throughout the story. I enjoy how Baby uses music in every step of his life.

This movie has some of the best car chase scenes in recent years and is easily in the conversation of all time as well. I love that the action scenes were practical effects and CGI is used very little.

The characters in this movie were very engaging. The main character, Baby comes off very quiet and dry but as the movie moves along we find out more of his story and why he is the way he is. Jamie Foxx is a tough SOB but slick at the same time. Kevin Spacey was the highlight of the movie because he always does an amazing job of delivering so much emotion without physically doing so.

Besides the music, the other thing that stood out to me was how unpredictable the story was, when you thought it was going one direction, it would change things up. Also, it was funny at the right moments.

I will admit the love story in this movie didn’t seem to believable, mostly because it came together so fast and both were willing to make sacrifices for one another without barely knowing each other.

The third act in the movie was very fast paced filled with a ton of action sequences. It had the feel of a superhero movie without being one.

Edgar Wright comes through with another fun and entertaining movie and this might be the sleeper for best movie of the summer. Go out and see it ASAP.

I would rate the film: 8/10
