Dave Mustaine thinks Grammy would be ‘a lot better’ if it was only awarded to him

After winning a Grammy earlier this year with Megadeth, frontman Dave Mustaine spoke about his career and recent accomplishments in an interview with the Columbus Dispatch.

Megadeth has been nominated for 12 Grammys since they formed in 1983, but won the “Best Metal Performance” award for their song, “Dystopia,” for the first time this year. Although the band finally won, Mustaine wasn’t fully satisfied with the award.

As crazy as I am, I was thinking about the Grammy the other day and (how) it was given to Megadeth. I was thinking it would surely be a lot better if it was given to Dave Mustaine and not to Megadeth. I guess you’ve got to keep the fire burning.

That wasn’t the only thing that Mustaine felt strongly about.

Mustaine played guitar for Metallica from 1981-1983 but was kicked out of the band for being too dependent on drugs and alcohol. Although he was kicked out, Mustaine is credited as a co-writer on the band’s 1983 album, Kill Em’ All. But when Metallica got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, Mustaine wasn’t included on the list of those receiving the honor.

I’m basically in there with the Metallica thing, that was basically just a diss those guys pulled. But it would be nice to be in there on my own two feet. I’m sure at some point it will happen. You can’t create a whole frickin’ music style and not be recognized for it.

Although Mustaine felt he didn’t get the recognition he deserves, Megadeth will take their recent success with them as they continue their tour across North America and Europe into October.
