Late Metallica bassist Cliff Burton passed away in 1986 in a tragic bus accident, but his father carries on his legacy by still attending Metallica concerts across the globe.
At the ripe age of 92, Ray Burton has been spotted at recent Metallica concerts as they’ve toured the globe on their 2017 WorldWired tour, posing with band members and fans. In 2009, he stood in for his late son when Cliff was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside Metallica.
Ray is not only still involved with his late son’s band, but he also donates the money from his son’s royalties to a scholarship program, something he thinks would have made his son proud.
From the royalties that I get, I give a scholarship to the high school he went to, the Castro Valley High School, for music. I think Cliff probably would have done that with his money, because he was not against education by any means. He liked it very much.
