Cobra Kai

Before you roll your eyes at the thought Hollywood can’t think of anything new, trust me, this is a sequel we want to see.

A rivalry 30 years in the making is back, much more than revival

A sequel in the form of 10 episode, 30 minutes, season 1 of cobra kai for the Karate kid

Nostalgia

incorporate flashbacks with videos from the first movie

The main characters are back while introducing a new young cast

Both are going through mid crisis, while realizing they are not fully happy where they are in their life, cobra kai helps them jumpstart their lives and help them change for the better

Miguel is great

Daniel daughter very cute

Robbie was okay, kind of one dimensional, felt forced to like him, this should be moguls story

Values include balance between good and bad

Winning doesn’t solve anything

Told from Johnny perspective

Story of redemption

With 10 episodes the story is able to go into more details and expand on all of these characters, more time to work with, adding depth to these characters and giving more backstory that the movies didn’t provide.

We learn more on who jonny is and why he acts the way he does

While in the 80s, Cobra Kais values played into the bullies mentalities, those same values are what help the loser kids gain confidence, but at what cost, we see these kids not gain everything they want, hopefully in season 2 this will also get some sort of redemption.

I hope miguel doesn’t follow in johnny’s footsteps and ends up being the loser, i want hm to win and at the same time help cobra kai for the better

A lot of values we all can take away from this to be better people

Johnny is slowly learning he needs to change his life around and what he originally wanted in life is not what’s best for him, even though he wins in season 1 aka the tournament, will he ever win in life?

Johnny and Daniel are ying and yang, joker and batman, they need each other to push each other to the next level

From the trailer, it looked like Daniel was a rich snob now, but thankfully that lasted long in the movie, if anything he also got more depth added to his character and he learns he needs to go back to his old school ways of life to find happiness, the lessons he learned from mr. mirage are what makes him happy. He got so consume with his career, making a lot of money, he got away from the little things in life that he enjoys

they do make references to part 2 and 3 and even a jackie chan reference since he was apart of the 2010 remake

I was hoping for things to wrap up nicely by the finale, but as one chapter ends, the series ends on a cliffhanger that gives you a reason to tune into a future season two.

The show does a great job of mixing old school 80s culture with today’s world

The use of social media and how people live their life for an updated version of the karate kid story. Cyber bullying is real serious subject.

The training montages never get old.

Great soundtrack to set the mood, plus the use of classic rock and 80s hair metal.

It’s funny seeing johnny, a guy who peaked in high school, despite being in his 50s now, is stuck in his teenager ways, immature and in many ways naive to his childish ways, never grew up

A lot of the rivalry is at times due to misunderstandings

I love how the humor of this show comes from being politically incorrect, johnny’s lack of respect towards others is entertaining especially in today’s world we live in, a guy who is out of touch but that’s his charm and we get joy from seeing him begin this journey for change.

Miguel has a big heart and i want him to come full circle and realize he needs to take a step back and reflect on himself

think the overall message is the differences in philosophy between Miyagi and Kreese. Even when others utilize their teachings, the same outcome occurs. Miyagi taught balance in life as well as in fighting. Kreese taught to attack before you are attacked, to be the aggressor instead of the victim. Even when a good intentioned individual like Johnny preached those core values, the same outcome is produced.

I like how the show respects it’s original story and characters while giving them new ground to stand on and adding new characters and an engaging story to move forward with, great writing overall.

I hope Sam and Robbie don’t end up together, if anything Sam realizes she needs to go back to Miguel to help Miguel be a better person, Robbie’s main focus should be fixing his relationship with his Dad.

Hopefully Johnny and Daniel can eventually join forces and work together, maybe Johnny can run a dojo that Daniel funds?

Every episode doesn’t drag, very great pacing

I would rate the film: 9.5/10
