Lynyrd Skynyrd recently kicked off their “Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour” which included a stop here in the Bay Area last Friday night at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View. Lamont, Chasta and myself all attended the show. We have been lucky to see Lynyrd Skynyrd many times over the years, including their legendary perfomance at Bone Bash a few years ago, so when we heard that this will be Lynyrd Skynyrd’s farewell tour, there was no way we were going to miss it. Plus, it made for a great way to kick off the Memorial Day weekend.
I walked into Shoreline and met up with Lamont at The Bone booth which was flooded by Boneheads. We always have so much fun haning out with our listeners. Unfortunately, so many of you came by to say hi that we missed The Outlaws set, oops, lol. After dealing with an Uber driver who didn’t know where he was going, Chasta had to jump out of the car and walk the remaining mile toward the venue in her heels. Luckily, Chasta walked in right before her favorite band Blackberry Smoke hit the stage. I saw them once before at The Fillmore and this was Lamont’s first time seeing them live. Blackberry Smoke were phenomenal, playing a mixutre of hit songs from their catalog and new singles from their latest album “Find A Light.” As you can see in the videos below Chasta was singing and dancing along to every song. Next time Blackberry Smoke comes to the Bay Area I encourage all of you to go out and see them.
Bad Company was up next and after seeing a few songs Chasta and I were starving so we made a food and beer run. Between the long lines and saying hi to more listeners we missed most of Bad Company’s set. Damn.
Lynyrd Skynyrd was up next to finish off the night. Wow, what an amazing set. The band played all of their hit songs. Hearing that dirty yet catchy guitar riff for Saturday Nigh Special reminded me how badass that song is, especially live. I always geek out when they do Tuesday’s Gone, such a powerful song. Things got emotional for the crowd during Simple Man. Lynyrd Skynyrd had the crowd dancing during Gimmie Three Steps and what better way to end their set with Sweet Home Alabama. Of course, the band came back out for an encore to play the song everyone wants to hear, Freebird.
Overall, the concert’s energy was incredible. A packed house full of Boneheads, everyone was in a good mood and were ready to party. I told Chasta is felt like a Bone Bash Lite. Thank you to all the Boneheads who came say hello to us. Also, thank you Lynyrd Skynyrd for an amazing performance and for 50 plus years of rocking us.
