Baby Huey’s Movie Review For Incredibles 2

Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios presents Incredibles 2 which will be released on June 15th, 2018.

Everyone’s favorite family of superheroes is back in “Incredibles 2” but this time Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is in the spotlight, leaving Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell) and Dash (voice of Huck Milner) to navigate the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life. It’s a tough transistion for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the family is still unaware of baby Jack-Jack’s emerging superpowers. When a new villain hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family and Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) must find a way to work together again, which is easier said than done, even when they’re all Incredible.

Directed by Brad Bird

The cast includes:

Craig T. Nelson as Bob Parr/Mr. Incredible
Holly Hunter as Helen Parr/Elastigirl
Sarah Vowell as Violet Parr
Huck Milner as Dashiell “Dash” Parr
Eli Fucile as Jack-Jack Parr
Samuel L. Jackson as Lucius Best/Frozone
Bob Odenkirk as Winston Deavor
Catherine Keener as Evelyn Deavor
Brad Bird as Edna Mode

They say patience is virtue, which is obvious if you’re a fan of 2004’s The Incredibles. Finally, after waiting for fourteen years, Writer and Director Brad Bird is back with Incredibles 2. This movie was one of my most anticipated movies for this year not just because it was the long awaited sequel from Pixar but The Incredibles is one of the best family theme superhero movies of all-time. The Incredibles did a better job than any Fantastic Four movie has ever done.

I loved this movie. A great sequel to the first movie. Incredibles 2 delivers everything you want to see again from this family and for a superhero movie. A fast paced movie that keeps me engage the whole time through funny moments, awesome score and a badass third act that entails a huge showdown between many superheroes and supervillans. Plus, once again we get emotionally attached to these characters, all the same qualifications we got from the first movie.

For the story itself, we learned superheroes are still illegal. While we see The Incredibles trying to do superhero related activities we also see them deal with family responsibilities, balancing the two is very tough. Their interactions with each other and see how their family dynamics has evolved is what makes these characters relatable.

While we see the Mom, Helen Parr aka Elastigirl being recruited by a billionaire named Winston Deavor (voiced by Bob Odenkirk) who wants to help make superheroes legal again. Deavor wants to use her to change the public’s perception of superheroes and hopefully win over everyone’s support. While that is going on we see Bob Parr aka Mr. Incredible doing a role reversal and is being a stay at home Dad and putting up with all the craziness from their three children, including their daughter Violet dealing with teenager issues, Dash with his kid problems like math homework and their youngest Jack-Jack developing his own set of assorted powers. Jack-Jack is one of the stand outs of this movie.

I had so much fun watching this movie and despite being a Pixar cartoon movie, it’s obviously aimed towards kids but there is so much for adults to enjoy as well. Especially with the fact that one of the major themes of this movie is that being a parent is a 24/7 heroic act.

The animation and special effects were amazing, from the details on their clothes, case in point seeing the stitching on their superhero outfits. You really feel the vibes you would get from a big live action superhero movie. From the intense train sequence to the third act, as I mention before involves a very big battle (very similar to Captain America: Civil War).

I was happy to see everyone in The Incredibles feel refresh and offer something new, from their interactions with each other, I’m glad to see this family to continue to evolve.

The big reveal of the villain was obvious and I felt the setup was weak. I think everyone in the room was not surprise. With that being said, the villain in the first one was better. I noticed very much like Marvel movies, the focus of this story was on the heroes and less on the development on the villain. It’s unfortunate because I think the overall strength of a superhero movie is how well the villain is portrayed.

Overall, it’s a very good sequel to the original Incredibles movie. A solid story that gave me a new reason to care about these characters again. The storytelling through improved animation and action sequences shows how much has changed for the better in fourteen years since the last movie. I know it’s 2018 and you’re probably thinking great, another superhero movie. Before you jump to that conclusion just know this movie stands out and is a proven hit franchise. You will have fun. Incredibles 2 proves a family theme superhero team can work, I hope you’re paying attention Fantastic Four, you have some learning to do. I just hope if they ever make a third one, we don’t have to wait another fourteen years.

I would rate the film: 8/10
