Back in January I was talking to my friend Casey from FeatherWitch and we were talking music and different bands we like and then he told me I need to check out this band from New York City called Wyldlife. I went home that night to listen to them and have been hooked ever since. Wyldlife has become my new favorite bands. I love their sound, which I can describe as punk rock and roll, a mixture of high energy punk rock fused with sing along lyrics, catchy melodies with a power pop influence and you have Wyldlife.
After watching all of their music videos and following them on social media, I bought their music on iTunes and was listening to them non stop. I checked their tour dates and only saw East Coast dates. I was able to get into contact with Wyldlife’s lead singer Dave Feldman and he said hopefully one day they can get out to the West Coast.
Jump ahead a couple months I figured the chances of the band ever touring through the Bay Area were slim to none. One day Wyldlife posted on Instagram an image with the big announcement that they would be making their first ever west coast tour which included two Bay Area dates, a show in Oakland at The Stork Club and a show at the Hemlock Tavern in San Francisco. Finally, this was my chance to see Wyldlife in person.
Despite a long day at work last Tuesday and their show on a weeknight for me, which is tough for me since I had to get up early the next morning for work. However, I told myself I have been waiting for this show forever and who knows when the band would come back to the Bay Area again. I sucked it up and went to the show and was so happy I did.
I went to The Stork Club show because it was closer to me in the east bay. I walked in right before Dirty Few hit the stage, a great band from Denver, Colorado, who have been on the road with Wyldlife. Dirty Few have a similar sound to Wyldlife, a fun garage rock vibe to them and were great to watch before Wyldlife’s set.
The members of Wyldlife jumped on stage and kicked things into high gear for their performance. From the photos and videos below everyone in the room were on their feet and up close to the front of the stage to sing along and dance. I loved every minute of their show, featuring songs from catalog of albums and EPs. Lead singer Dave Feldman looks a lot like former Germs frontman Darby Crash. I love watching him sing, while giving these over the top facial expressions with his mouth wide open, he was belting out all the lyrics while the rest of the guys headbang and filled in the song with their backup vocals. Wyldlife played for about 45 minutes, it went by so fast, I wished they would have played longer, lol.
I was able to meet lead singer Dave Feldman and chat with him briefly. Dave is a great guy and I was able to thank him and his band for finally coming to the Bay Area. I showed my support and bought some merch and headed home for the night. Despite being exhausted at work a few short hours later, it was totally worth it to finally see Wyldlife in person. If I had the energy and/or could have gotten the day off the next day I would have gone to see them the next night in San Francisco, but working on the morning makes going to late night weeknight shows tough especially on back to back nights. Thank you Wyldlife for finally coming to the west coast, specifically the Bay Area, please come back soon.
