BLOG: Riding Death Valley

Millions of Americans fought traffic, long lines and chaos as they pursued the annual Black Friday deals on November 23, 2018.

Me? I barely saw a single person. Very few living creatures. And there was definitely not any stress.  Instead of shopping I opted to go riding. And this year I chose Death Valley to knock another historic ride from my motorcycling Bucket List.

I left my H-D Fatboy in the garage at home and rented a 2017 H-D Road King for the journey. It began in Las Vegas where I took NV-160 through Mountain Springs and then Pahrump (Pro Tip: Fuel up in Pahrump whether you need it or not. Gas stations are scarce in Death Valley and the few that exist will charge over $5.00/gallon). After re-fueling it was left onto NV-372 which turns into Charles Brown Highway through Shoshone and then to Badwater Basin.

And the views just get better and better!

From Badwater Basin it was next to Furnace Creek, CA, for a late lunch then towards Stovepipe Wells, CA.  The sun sets early in the Valley so I rode back along CA-190 and into Death Valley Junction before hopping on State Line Road to cruise back into Pahrump for the evening.

As true with any ride the best views occur while you are on the motorcycle.  But I still do my best to capture images of these amazing memories. Take a look at some of them in the gallery below.
