Almost two years after Black Sabbath concluded their huge farewell tour, bassist Geezer Butler revealed his new project: a supergroup called Deadland Ritual featuring drummer Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver), guitarist Steve Stevens (Billy Idol) and vocalist Franky Perez (Scars on Broadway, Apocalyptica).
Deadland Ritual have released their first single called “Down in Flames.”
The band explained how the members came together, saying that Sorum’s longtime friendships with Stevens and Perez is what started the original core line-up. At first Butler was unsure about the project but changed his mind after hearing their early material.
So far Deadland Ritual have announced two summer 2019 tour dates: at the Download Festival in Donnington, England, from June 14th through June 16th. Followed by Hellfest in Clisson, France, on June 22nd. As for the band’s setlist, they will perform original material and “deeper cuts from their collective past.”
Over the coming months leading up to their festival shows, the band is planning to record additional material – including more singles and a potential album. They’re also expected to announce further concerts.
