On September 6th and 8th, the Bay Area’s own Metallica will be the first ever concerts at the brand new Chase Center in San Francisco. The world renowned rockers will once again partner with the San Francisco Symphony to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their “S&M” live album. Metallica’s concerts at the Chase Center with the San Francisco Symphony are being called “S&M2.”
Both concerts sold out very fast and Metallica was blown away by the response. For Metallica fans who are not able to attend either of the concerts, the band still wants to share this unique performance with everyone. On October 9th, Metallica will release a film of the “S&M2” concerts. The movie will showcase the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the original S&M concerts, album, and also commemorate the grand opening of the state-of-the-art Chase Center, a historic addition to San Francisco’s waterfront. This one-night-only event will be shown in over 3,000 movie theaters around the world. Tickets for the movie screening will be available on August 7th. The band first collaborated with the San Francisco Symphony, then conducted by Michael Kamen, in 1999 for two nights, the recordings of which became an album that reached Number Two on the Billboard 200. The band and its classical accompaniment performed two previously unreleased songs, “Human” and “No Leaf Clover.” The latter reached number one on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and the Number 74 on the Hot 100 list.
This time around, the group is promising to perform the hits of their last S&M concert as well as the songs they’ve released since the 1999 concert. The San Francisco Symphony will be conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas who is also artistic director for the New World Symphony.
