Jimmy Garoppolo, fullback?
That’s what it looked like early in the second quarter of Saturday’s dominant Divisional Playoff victory over the Vikings, when Garoppolo found himself as the lead blocker on a reverse to Deebo Samuel.
One-on-one with Anthony Barr, Garoppolo, a linebacker in high school, did not shy away from contact, but rather surprised Barr by engaging, and knocked the four-time Pro Bowler onto his back to clear the way for Samuel.
Samuel fumbled on the play, but the call was overturned after replays showed his knee was down.
Usually, the fear of calling a reverse is that it puts the quarterback in a precarious position. With Jimmy G, maybe it’s opposing linebackers who should be afraid.
