Jaquiski Tartt explains why he wasn’t bothered by Jamal Adams trade rumors

As far as NFL offseasons go, and they are almost always painfully slow, the 2020 offseason was exceedingly so. Yet, the NFL pushed on with the draft and free agency remotely, and there was no shortage of rumors to be had.

Chief among those were related to Jamal Adams, who was eventually traded to the Seattle Seahawks after requesting a trade from the New York Jets. The 49ers were included in those rumors, despite minimal cap space, because they were on the list of teams Adams wanted to be traded to.

The obvious outcast in any trade for Adams would be Jaquiski Tartt. You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who would blame the 49ers’ Super Bowl loss, or deficiencies in the secondary, on Tartt, but Adams, as a top-five safety in the NFL, is too enticing a player to write off.

On Wednesday, Tartt spoke to media, saying he was relatively unbothered by the Adams speculation.

“As far as the Jamal Adams talk, I mean, it was quarantine, the media needs some kind of attention, so I don’t really too much worry about all that,” Tartt said. “It’s just social media.”

He also re-lived his Richard Sherman fan moment over the summer, around the time of the Adams speculation, but unrelated to it. He recalled watching Sherman in the Super Bowl with his family while he was still enrolled at Samford.

“To be honest, he didn’t reach out to me about that at all,” Tartt said. “He just happened to call me, he was just trying to see how I’m living, it had nothing to do with that. For me, it was just a moment. I was just thinking about just me being in college, and watching Sherm in the Superbowl, stuff like that. I was with my friends and family down in Florida. I was like, man, because my cousin seen him call me, like, ‘Bro, this is Richard Sherman!’ It was just like, ‘Yeah, it is Richard Sherman.’ So I just had a little fan moment.”
