LISTEN: New Mastodon Featured on the Bill & Ted 3 Soundtrack

29 years after their Excellent Adventure and their Bogus Journey, Bill and Ted return for one last time to Face the Music.

The latest installment of the Bill and Ted movie franchise, Bill and Ted Face the Music, honors the series’ tradition of having a rockin’ soundtrack. In this spirit, Mastodon has written a song, named after the late George Carlin’s character Rufus, called “Rufus Lives” for the third installment of the movie. A fast-paced, chugging train of a track that careens down the mountain at full speed and whose tasty lead guitar are both the breaks and the coal in the engine.

Mastodon also accompanies Lamb of God, Weezer, and Wyld Stallyns, the in-movie band of Bill and Ted, on the soundtrack. Though Wyld Stallyns are a fledgling band in the movies, on the soundtrack they get a little help from an appearance from Animals as Leaders.

The movie also gets another modern update as Tonsin Abasi, not only shredding for Wyld Stallyns, sorry Van Halen, has replaced Steve Vai and the in-house shred machine. Any time Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter play a sick lick on their air guitars Abasi will be the one behind the magic.

Bill and Ted Face the Music released in theaters and is streaming digitally last Friday and Reeves and Winter thanked fans for pushing them to revisit the characters all these years later.

Check out Mastodon’s new track in the video above. And remember, be excellent – and party on.
