Nikki Sixx has reportedly sold his music catalogue to the UK investment firm Hipgnosis.

Sixx, lead songwriter and bassist of 80’s sensation Mötley Crüe, has signed over 100% of the royalties to his 305 song library. In that library are hit songs such as “Looks That Kills,” Shout at the Devil,” “Home Sweet Home” and “Girls, Girls, Girls.

Hipgnosis, a fledging music licensing and investment company, has been on a massive buying spree of $700 million since it’s inception in 2018. However, the company, according to it’s website, is focused solely on songs proven to have staying power. So far their catalogue includes everyone from Journey to AC/DC, Beiber to Adele. Earnings reports show that in 2019 they had licensed 4 of the 5 top Billboard’s Songs of the Decade and 8 of the 25 most played songs of all time on Spotify.

Of course Mötley Crüe will fit in just fine with such a prestigious lineup as the band boasts more than 100 million albums sold worldwide, seven platinum or multi-platinum certifications, six Top 20 singles, and many, many more accolades.

“Mötley Crüe were singlehandedly responsible for the Los Angeles rock explosion of the 1980s, paving the way for everyone that came in their wake and putting rock music back on to Top 40 radio and the pop charts,” said Hipgnosis founder Merck Mercuriadis. “Nikki was the catalyst and architect of all of that and we are delighted to welcome him to the Hipgnosis family.”

Sixx seems to share Mercuriadis’ enthusiasm and spoke highly of the company he was selling his music library to.

Merck and his team at Hipgnosis are an artist-friendly, forward-thinking company. Looking to the future, I am grateful that they will treat my music with great care and respect,” said Sixx.
