The 49ers are now down two edge rushers.
Dee Ford has no timetable for return, after further evaluation of the minor neck issue that kept him out last Sunday has been discovered to be a more serious back issue. He joins the other 49ers pass rushing specialist, Nick Bosa, on the injury report. Bosa is out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL.
After further evaluation, #49ers DE Dee Ford is expected to miss this week’s game against the #Giants and there’s no clear timetable for his return, sources tell me and @MikeGarafolo. The hope is Ford’s back injury settles down, but it may take some time.

The report is just the latest in what seems to be an unending cycle of bad injury news for the 49ers who are scheduled to be without the following players vs. the Giants this weekend: Ford, Bosa, Richard Sherman, Deebo Samuel, Raheem Mostert, Tevin Coleman, Solomon Thomas, Weston Richburg, Jullian Taylor, Ronald Blair and Richie James. Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle are both questionable.
Ford, 29, has been injury prone throughout his career, and played just 20 percent of the team’s snaps last year while dealing with a variety of ailments. He said his goal for 2020 was to be more available.
