Would You Attend a Bubble Concert?

There have been a number of attempts to execute a safe and entertaining live concert over the past seven months during the pandemic. Some have been fairly successful, and some have not. The most recent experiment comes from the creative minds behind the Flaming Lips, and it may just be the future of live music. At least in the near future. Is it cheap? Definitely not. But did it work? Seems like it!

If you follow the Flaming Lips and their history of unique live shows, then you may know that frontman Wayne Coyne is known for getting into a life-size, clear gerbil ball and crowd-surfing on the hands of the concert attendees. It’s wild. You can watch a clip from one of their previous concerts above. Embracing this concept, the Flaming Lips decided to throw a concert where everyone – the audience members included – all wear their own individual gerbil-bubble-balls! This way, everyone can watch the concert and get as close as they want without putting each other at risk for contracting coronavirus (or as close as they can, considering they are inside of a bubble and have at least a few feet of empty space surrounding them). Check out a video of the bubble concert below and read the full story here.
