Cool or Gross: Check out This Guitar Made From Someone’s Bones

Youtube, @MetalSucks

So this guy built a guitar using his dead uncle’s bones. Words that come to mind watching this video? Weird. Cool. Gross. Creative. Weird again. He knows his way around a guitar, as you can see from the video. And we’ll give him bonus points for creativity. It’s still kinda gross, but it’s also kinda cool.

It’s called Skelecaster, and is a tribute to a Florida man’s deceased Uncle Flip, who died in a car accident twenty years ago. The skeleton had initially been used for educational purposes at a college in Greece, but was returned to the family after years of ‘use.’ So the musician who goes by Prince Midnight made the decision to turn the bones into a guitar, and honor his uncle forever (or at least the life of the guitar).

He says, “So, I got the box of bones from Greece and didn’t know what to do at first. Bury them? Cremate them? Put them in the attic? All seemed like poor ways to memorialize someone who got me into heavy metal. So, I decided to turn Uncle Filip into a guitar, which proved to be challenging. I did a lot of research and no one has ever made a guitar out of a skeleton. So, I did it. I started out consulting with two guys in Dean Guitars’ woodshop in Tampa but they got cold feet. Anyways, now Uncle Filip can shred for all eternity. That’s how he would want it. I’m super proud of the project and how it serves to honor him, his life, and his influence on me.” Check out the full story from consequenceofsound.net.
