Newsom: CA will set aside COVID-19 vaccines for educators

Governor Newsom visited a mobile vaccination clinic Friday morning which will serve teachers and school staff in neighborhoods heavily impacted by coronavirus.

Newsom announced that California will set aside 10% of all vaccine doses for teachers and child care workers. The decision, starting March 1st, is a part of an effort to get kids back into in-person learning.

The system California has set up now, “Allows for the ability to distribute and administer well over two to four million vaccines every week…the only constraint now is manufactured supply…both of Moderna and Pfizer,” explained Newsom.

California Capitol Correspondent, Ashley Zavala provided more details on Newsom’s announcement.

Newsom also shared coronavirus numbers explaining, “6.9 million represents one of the highest numbers of vaccines administered not only of any state, but, all but 7 nations in the world.”

Newsom is pleased with the progress but said, “We still have work to do.”
