Celebrate Roger Daltrey’s Birthday With Some Random Facts and Isolated Vocal Tracks

Roger Daltrey, lead singer of The Who, turns 77 today (March 1st)! To celebrate, we thought we’d tell you some lesser-known facts about the iconic frontman and share some of his best isolated vocal tracks.

  • Before he played in The Who, he was a sheet-metal worker.
  • He plays flute, tambourine, harmonica, and guitar.
  • As a young man, Roger had a stutter.
  • His first band was called The Detours, which he auditioned to be the guitarist for using a home-made guitar.
  • Before he joined the band, Roger randomly saw John Entwistle walking down the street, carrying a bass. He introduced himself, and eventually asked John to join his band.
  • On May 31st, 1976, The Who made a Guinness Record for “loudest concert,” although it has been beaten a number of times over the years since.
  • One time Roger hit Who guitarist Pete Townshend with a guitar, and he had to be taken to the hospital.
