It’s been rough few days for the Chiefs’ front office from a poaching standpoint. Trent Williams revealed on Tuesday that he nearly signed with Kansas City, before a late-night FaceTime call with Kyle Shanahan set Paraag Marathe straight and streamlined a deal by the time Williams finished dinner about an hour later.

And on Wednesday, the 49ers filled out their last glaring the hole in the secondary, bringing back the well-loved and relentless nickel corner, K’Waun Williams. The “Killer Whale,” or “Shark,” as his teammates call him—a tongue-in-cheek joke about his diminutive, 5’9″ 185-pound frame with which he packs a massive, outsized punch—is staying in the Bay, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Williams visited the Chiefs at their facility, leaving without a contract according to Matt Barrows, only to decide to return to the 49ers shortly after. That’s two key 49ers who recently turned the Chiefs down, and it leaves San Francisco with one of the league’s elite slot corners. Williams is a veritable lockdown in the slot and is as efficient a blitzer as you can find from a player in the secondary (besides maybe Jamal Adams, who’s basically a defensive end).
