An archived interview with James Hetfield has emerged online and it gives fans an insight in how the Metallica frontman holds his guitar picks.

The interviewer for Total Guitar pointed out to Hetfield that, “You have an unusual way of holding your pick using your thumb, index and middle fingers, as opposed to just your thumb and index finger.” Hetfield replied, “I tried it the other way to see how it would feel, but there’s something about having that extra finger that stabilizes the top of the pick. Otherwise, it moves too much.”

Hetfield also revealed that he goes through ten guitar picks a show!

Do you do something a little differently from everyone else? How do you hold a guitar pick?
