The 49ers are beginning the 2021 season with a two-game East Coast trip, the first leg of which took place in Detroit last weekend. After dispatching of the Lions, San Francisco is staying at the historic Greenbrier resort in West Virginia during the week, as they prepare for a clash with the Eagles on Sunday.
The Greenbrier is one of most historic resorts in the country. Twenty-six U.S. Presidents have stayed there and it’s also the site of a massive underground bunker that was meant to serve as a shelter during the Cold War.
For the 49ers, it’s an ideal location to spend the week, considering they have an NFL level practice and workout facility on site.
“They have a whole built football facility at the Greenbrier,” 49ers tackle Mike McGlinchey told Lamont and Tonelli on Thursday, “because a bunch of other NFL teams, especially the ones from the southern parts of the country do training camp up here because it’s a little cooler, and there’s a lot of land up here. The resort has it’s own football-sports complex that was built a few years ago.
“It’s the full deal. We have meeting rooms, we have weight rooms, it’s the full practice fields, everything you could ever ask for. That’s why we love coming here. It’s a very easy transition from our spot to here and the operation is always first class.”
