Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains must have a book’s worth of memories, but the musician recently recalled the first time he heard Soundgarden.

Talking with Loudwire, Cantrell said, “We were probably just in the formative years — formative years? Formative weeks of being a band. I think the first thing I heard was ‘Hunted Down.’

“Hunted Down” was Soundgarden’s first single released through Sub Pop Records in 1987.

Recalling the Seattle music boom, Cantrell noted, “I was lucky enough to be part of one of those bands in our little hometown that made some racket that the whole world listened to. And I’m really proud to be a part of that collective of amazing artists from the great Northwest.”

What did you think the first time you heard Soundgarden? Can you recall how you felt the first time you heard your favorite band?
