Wolfgang Van Halen has reacted to former bandmate David Lee Roth’s retirement announcement — and it’s not the snarky send-off you might have been hoping for.

“One hell of a run, Dave,” the Mammoth VH founder writes on Instagram alongside a photo that shows the two onstage. Also weighing in on Twitter, Van Halen writes, “Thankful and proud to be a small part of your amazing journey.”

Roth, who earlier Monday announced the final performance of his career will occur January 8th at the Las Vegas House of Blues, says, “I’ve given you all I’ve got to give. It’s been an amazing, great run, no regrets, nothing to say about anybody. I’ll miss you all. Stay frosty.”

Why is it necessary for Roth to announce his retirement? Do you think he’ll stay retired?
