Things aren’t going well for the San Francisco 49ers, and they might get worse on Monday night. Not only are they facing the first place Rams, they might also have to face off against wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who Los Angeles signed on Thursday.
“It doesn’t surprise me,” Kyle Shanahan said regarding the Rams signing Beckham during his weekly hit with 107.7 The Bone. “I know all the options Odell had and I think it took awhile but I think that ended up being a good one for him. I think they are a pretty good team whether they have him or not. Having a guy like him should only make them better.”
Shanahan said that the Niners contemplated signing Beckham as well but didn’t think it was the smart long-term play, especially with the team struggling.
“We looked into it, but all the issues with it, when he got cut he had two years on his contract. When he got let go it went to none. To sit there and spend all that money when it’s only for seven games, it’s a big risk. It can help you in the meantime, but it will definitely hurt you the next year, and that’s something we felt we couldn’t afford right now.”
