It’s been 40 years since Ozzy Osbourne bit the head off of a live bat.

The infamous moment happened on January 20, 1982, at a show at Des Moines Veterans Memorial Auditorium.

While the incident last just seconds, it made the news around the world.

“I thought it was a rubber bat,” Osbourne said in the ‘Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne’ documentary. “I picked it up, put it in my mouth, crunched down, bit into it, being the clown that I am.”

Osbourne had already made a tradition of throwing raw meat into the audience and letting them throw things back.

What is the most shocking thing you have seen at a concert? Do you think Ozzy has mellowed out over the years?
