Def Leppard is the latest band to strike a lucrative deal involving its massive song catalog.

The band has sold an additional stake in its publishing and master royalty rights to Primary Wave Music.  Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Def Leppard has been working with Primary Wave since 2009.  The company also has publishing deals with artists like Stevie Nicks, Bob Marley, Whitney Houston, and Prince.

Why are so many artists selling their publishing rights?  How long will this current bubble last?
