Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett is going solo on a new project.

Hammett will be releasing ‘Portals,’ a new instrumental EP.

“The initial concept for ‘Portals’ started with that one song,” Hammett explained in a statement. “Following that, I realized I could create different soundtrack moments. These songs are what I call ‘audio cinematic’; I’m creating sounds and pieces of music for the movies playing in my head. Hopefully they’ll create movies in other people’s heads in a similar fashion.”

You can expect ‘Portals’ out on April 23.

Do you think it is good for members of bands to go off and do their own things? Will you be listening to ‘Portals?’
