Ian McDonald, a co-founding member of both Foreigner and King Crimson, has died at the age of 75 after a battle with cancer.

McDonald was a multi-instrumentalist and in-demand session musician in England, playing saxophone, keyboards, guitar, flute, and other instruments.  

He joined King Crimson in 1969, playing on the band’s landmark debut In The Court of the Crimson King.

In 1976, he would co-found Foreigner along with guitarist Mick Jones, playing on the band’s first three albums before leaving in 1980.

McDonald also released two solo albums and played saxophone on the T.Rex hit “Bang A Gong”.
