Valerie Bertinelli Shoots Down Claims That She Broke Up Van Halen

Nearly 37 years after frontman David Lee Roth and his Van Halen bandmates went their separate ways, Valerie Bertinelli wants the world to know she is no Yoko Ono.

The ex-wife of late guitarist Eddie Van Halen says despite rumors that have dogged her for years, she was not responsible for the band’s 1985 split from Roth. “Well, I have been accused of that, even though Yoko didn’t break up the Beatles, and I certainly didn’t break up Van Halen,” Bertinelli says.

That said, the 61-year-old actress — who married Van Halen in 1981 — admits to having had a “rocky relationship” with Roth. “I got along great with Al [Van Halen] and with Mike [Anthony],” she says. “It was someone else. I don’t know why didn’t like me, but what are you going to do? I mean, I was always nice to him. I honestly don’t know.”

Why do girlfriends always get blamed for breaking up bands?
