Trent Reznor Considered This Song a “Throwaway”

YouTube, @Nine Inch Nails.

“Head Like a Hole” is a classic for Nine Inch Nails fans, but frontman Trent Reznor once considered the song to be a “throwaway.”

In 2005, Reznor spoke with “Kerrang!” about the work that went into Nine Inch Nails’ debut album “Pretty Hate Machine.”

“I wrote it at the last minute as a throwaway,” Reznor said of “Head Like a Hole.” The rest of ‘Pretty Hate Machine’ was already written, and we’d revised everything else about nine times.”

Reznor also noted that he was initially annoyed with the song’s success, saying, “The fact that it produced this huge reaction really pissed me off because I hadn’t agonized over it.”

What is your favorite song from “Pretty Hate Machine?” Can you imagine the album without “Head Like a Hole?”
