Kirk Hammett’s Favorite Pink Floyd Moment

YouTube, @Jellyfish Records.

Like many of us, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett is a big Pink Floyd fan – but his favorite song might surprise you.

Hammett picked “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” as the true gem of the Floyd catalog.

Hammett explained why he loves it so much: “there is a riff in that song, but it’s so sideways and so around the back. When you listen, it’s actually blues.  It’s a freaking blues progression but it doesn’t sound like it, and that in itself is a real accomplishment.

He also says the guitar solo outshines David Gilmour’s more famous solo from “Comfortably Numb”:  “I love how understated Gilmour’s playing is“.

What’s your favorite Pink Floyd guitar solo?
