The Red Hot Chili Peppers will be honored with the Global Icon Award at this year’s MTV VMAs.
The band will also perform at the ceremony for the first time since 2000.
The Peppers have won a total of eight VMA trophies in their career, and are nominated in the Best Rock category for “Black Summer”.
The Global Icon Award “celebrates an artist or band whose unparalleled career and continued impact and influence has maintained a unique level of global success in music and beyond“, according to MTV. Foo Fighters won the award last year.
This year’s VMAs take place August 28th at New Jersey’s Prudential Center.
