A lot of people think Trey Lance might be a star in the making.
At least that’s the case for the person who bought Lance’s 2021 Panini Flawless Platinum NFL Shield Patch Rookie Autograph card for a whopping $132,000 in a auction at PWCC Marketplace on Thursday. The card is the only one of its kind in circulation.
The sale more than doubled the previous record for a Lance rookie card, which had a previous high of $61K.
“This is obviously a big year for Lance as he’s getting the chance to become the franchise QB,” Jesse Craig, Director of Business Development at PWCC Marketplace, said via NBC Sports. “If he performs well this season, then collectors who pick up his cards now will be very happy. This obviously comes with risk if he doesn’t perform, but for those that believe in him, now is the time to buy.”
Some big name analysts have projected Lance to have a breakout season. Louis Riddick called Lance a sleeper MVP pick. If Lance plays anywhere close to that, the return on investment for his rookie card will be significant.
