John Lennon’s Demo Of ‘Yellow Submarine’ Surfaces

The Beatles classic “Yellow Submarine” was almost a very different type of song.

On Friday, a previously-unheard demo of the song was released to promote the upcoming deluxe reissue of Revolver.

The minute-long demo finds John Lennon singing the tune as a sad, acoustic ballad, rather than the bouncy, upbeat song it would become.

The Revolver reissue will also include a version of “Yellow Submarine” sung as a duet by Lennon and McCartney.

“I [was] given the keys to Abbey Road and the Beatles’ vault and was allowed to go into the tapes – and it’s just amazing,” said remix producer Giles Martin. “It’s such an amazing body of work. There’s such energy that comes out of all of the tapes. My kind of role is like: Everyone should be able to hear that energy.”

Revolver is schedule to be released on Friday, October 28th. Listen to a preview of the unheard song below.
