Brian Johnson Addresses Longstanding ‘Back In Black’ Rumor


AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson is setting the record straight about one of the band’s most iconic hits.

For years, it’s been rumored that original singer Bon Scott – not Johnson – wrote the lyrics for “Back In Black” before his death in 1980.

But Johnson puts that rumor to bed in his new memoir The Lives of Brian: “It was me at the end of the pen, writing every night and every morning, with only the title to work with.”

While the rumor might not be true, “Back In Black” was written as a “tribute to Bon”, according to late guitarist Malcolm Young.
