COVID-19 Changed This Thanksgiving Tradition

In yet another change brought on by the pandemic, Wednesday has lost its title as the most-traveled day leading up to Thanksgiving.

According to the Transportation Security Administration, officers screened more than 5 million passengers on Sunday and Monday – a new record. Although Tuesday’s numbers aren’t in yet, at least 48,000 flights were scheduled to leave U.S. airports.

“People are traveling on different days,” says Sharon Pinkerton, senior vice president at the trade group Airlines for America. “Not everyone is traveling on that Wednesday night. People are spreading their travel out throughout the week, which I also think will help ensure smoother operations.”
