Brian Johnson, the lead singer of AC/DC, was asked if he had ever met a famous person who made him feel “in awe” of them in a recent interview on the “Torg & Elliott” radio show.
“Yes, that has happened, and it was Paul McCartney. I didn’t know what to say to him. I mean, for the first time I was absolutely tongue-tied.”
He added that it was hard for him to speak, but after the encounter, they became friends.
Prior to AC/DC’s headlining performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April 2015, Johnson said he had received words of support from McCartney.
He said McCartney told him “Brian, you get on that stage and I’m telling you, you see all these kids looking for the hip-hop acts. Then they see you, and they’re like, ‘Who’s he? Oh, yeah — me dad talks of him.’ But he said it’s great because you’re doing your thing, and eventually all the kids go, ‘He’s cool, this dude’!”
