Gene Simmons is calling out Rolling Stone over their highly controversial ranking of the top 200 singers of all time.
The list snubbed some very notable music icons including Sting, Celine Dion, Cher, and Kiss.
The magazine says it used originality, influence, the depth of an artist’s catalog, and the breadth of their musical legacy to come up with the ranking but Simmons isn’t having it.
“Before you start scrolling (and commenting), keep in mind that this is the Greatest Singers list, not the Greatest Voices List,” said the Rolling Stones editors. “Talent is impressive; genius is transcendent.”
In an interview, the Kiss bassist and vocalist said the list is all about who’s popular and who’s not and called the whole thing “skewed and often one-sided.”
He said the list isn’t necessarily about singing, it’s more about style and who has a recognizable voice.
