Jeff Beck, the iconic guitarist, has died at the age of 78.
In a social media post, his family said, “It is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing. After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.”
Beck won eight Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: once as a member of the Yardbirds in 1992 and once as a solo artist 2009. He was also ranked number five in Rolling Stone’s 100 greatest guitarists, describing his playing as “Melodic but in-your-face – bright, urgent and edgy, but sweet at the same time.”
