Mike McCready Reveals His Favorite Pearl Jam Songs to Play Live

Pearl Jam has always been a live band first and foremost – so which songs does guitarist Mike McCready enjoy playing the most?

It’s a question he’s been asked a lot over the years, and the guitarist always circles back to a handful of favorites.

First off, the classics “Alive” and “Black”, which are part of virtually every Pearl Jam concert. When performing his solo in “Black”, McCready explained, “I stay to the one main part, and then I try to expand on that every night we play it. If I’m not thinking about it—I’m just going, my eyes are closed, and I can see the guitar neck in my head—that’s when I’m playing it the best.”

Two deeper cuts McCready loves to play are “Off He Goes” and “Inside Job”. Finally, there’s the Who classic “Baba O’Riley”, which Pearl Jam has been covering for nearly as long as they’ve been together.
