April 5, 2023, marks 29 years since Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain died. His influence still remains strong over family members, bandmates, musicians, and countless fans.

Kurt Cobain died by suicide on April 5, 1994, at 27.

27 years laters, Cobain’s childhood home in Aberdeen, Washington was officially made a historical landmark in 2021. The Washington Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation has placed the house – in which Cobain lived from 1968 through 1984 – on its “Heritage Register” of culturally important structures.

Cobain’s former band members – Dave Grohl, Pat Smear, and Krist Novoselic – said they still like to get together and play as Nirvana when they can. 

“We like to see each other and if there are instruments around or a studio that’s available, we’ll just get together and kind of jam, you know?” Grohl explained, “It’s more just like friends, jamming around, it doesn’t really seem like any sort of like big official reunion or anything.”

Cobain’s impact, which spreads far and wide, will never be forgotten. Reflecting on iconic guitarists, Queen’s Brian May said Cobain gave the world, “Some of the greatest guitar music of all time” because “It’s about what you put into it and what you feel and how that feeling gets across in your guitar playing.”

Further proving Nirvana’s impact, the Grammy’s awarded the band with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2023 Special Merit Awards. The band’s sophomore album ‘Nevermind’ features the GRAMMY Hall of Fame single “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
